Centre giving high priority for developing border areas: Arunachal Guv

Itanagar, Jan 18: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu had a meeting with the top brass of security agencies and senior state government officials at Raj Bhavan here today to discuss the ongoing infrastructure projects in the border areas of the State.

"The Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving high priority for developing the border areas," the Governor said during the meeting while emphasizing on timely implementation and quality assurance of the projects in the border areas.

Mishra said that the villages in the border areas must be economically 'vibrant' and should have good roads, schools, medical facilities and reliable communication networks.

He further said that the roads, bridges, tunnels and tracks taken up in the border areas must be of the highest standard to sustain the economic development of the local people and the security of the borders.

The Governor advised the security agencies to explore the best technical and scientific methods of road construction. He also stressed on proper coordination with the district authorities while taking up the road projects.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 4 Corps, Lt Gen Ravin Khosla briefed the Governor and the Chief Minister about the developmental projects undertaken by the Indian Army. He assured them of the best security of the Indian territory on the borders and the work excellence in all the Defence projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

Besides the GOC, 4 Corps, the Inspector General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), North East Frontier Headquarters (Itanagar), Shyam Mehrotra, senior DIGs of ITBP S P Singh and Deepak Sandhuja and the State Government's Planning Commissioner Prashant Lokhande, among others, were present in the meeting, a communiqué from the Raj Bhavan said.
