Arunachal Pradesh reports 125 new COVID-19 cases, 2 fresh fatalities

Itanagar, Aug 21: Arunachal Pradesh reported 125 fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the virus tally in the northeastern state to 52,044, a senior health department official said here on Saturday.

The COVID-19 death toll in the frontier state increased to 257, with two more persons succumbing to the infection in the past two days, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The Capital Complex Region recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 37, followed by Lower Subansiri (23), West Siang (9) East Siang and West Kameng at eight each and six each from Lohit and Changlang, the SSO said.

Fresh cases each were also reported from Anjaw, Lower Siang, Upper Siang, Leparada, Lower Dibang Valley, Kamle, Namsai, Tirap, Upper Subansiri and Tawang districts, the official said.

Of the 125 fresh cases, 113 were detected through rapid antigen test, 2 through RT-PCR and 10 through TrueNAT method, the official said, adding that 60 people have developed symptoms of COVID-19.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 1,470 active COVID-19 cases, while 50,317 patients have recuperated from the disease, including 217 patients on Friday, Jampa said.

The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state now is 96.68 per cent while the active percentage stands at 2.82 and the positivity rate at 3.38 per cent, the official said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 377, followed by Lower Subansiri (144), Papumpare (134), West Kameng (88) and Upper Siang with 87 cases.

Altogether, 10,23,100 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the state so far, including 3,691 on Friday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer (SIO) Dr Dimong Padung said that a total of 9,26,432 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses so far in the state.
