Itanagar, Feb 14: Four persons have died on the spot and 15 others sustained injuries, nine of them seriously, when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident and fell down in a river in a remote location in Kra Daadi district on Sunday afternoon, police said on Monday.
The mishap occurred at a place called Kuba near the Kumey bridge point, about 85 kms from the district headquarters Palin. The ill-fated Bolero Pickup (AR-01N 4448) carrying 19 church believers, mostly women, was travelling from Tali, an ADC headquarters, to the district headquarters. They were returning after attending a fellowship programme at remote Tali, Kra Daadi SP Dusu Kaling said.
The deceased have been identified as Dohu Poyum, Nich Menia, Toku Yachi and Goda Yayak, the SP said.
He said, after the grueling rescue operation that continued till late night, all the injured were rushed to the Palin hospital, from where the critically injured ones were referred to the state capital Itanagar for improved treatment.
The local inhabitants also actively took part in the rescue operation and helped the rescue teams in saving the lives and retrieving the bodies, informed sources said.
The SP had said that the rescue teams, comprising police and medical personnel, were rushed to the spot upon receiving the information. Since the area is remotely located, there is a mobile network issue and moreover, the road condition is not good.
Meanwhile, the Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo Celebration Committee, 2022, Palin has mourned the tragic demise of the four ladies in the fatal road accident in Kra Daadi district and conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The committee members also prayed for speedy recovery of all those injured in the mishap.
