Active cases breach 1000 mark for first time in Meghalaya

Shillong, May 20: Breaching the 1000 mark, the state today reported its single day highest spike with 1183 active cases and 10 others succumbing to the infection.

With these record new active cases, the total positive active cases in the state have gone up to 6477. The total deceased are 389. During the same period 465 recovered from the infection and the total recovery in the state so far is 20061. Meanwhile, out of 1183 new cases, East Khasi Hills district recorded the highest with 656 cases. Ri-Bhoi is the second worst affected with 265. West Garo Hills reported 90 cases followed by West Jaintia Hills 53.

South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills reported 26 cases each, East Jaintia Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills 17 each, East Garo Hills nine and South West Khasi Hills seven cases. Of the ten new fatalities, East Khasi Hills district recorded six and West Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills recorded one death each.

East Khasi Hills has recorded a total of 324 total Covid deaths so far. West Garo Hills 22, West Jaintia Hills 15 and Ri-Bhoi district nine. East Jaintia Hills and North Garo Hills have reported four deaths each. South Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills have reported three deaths each. East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills have reported two deaths each and South West Khasi Hills has recorded one death.

The rate of active cases has shot up to 24.05 percent and the recovery rate has further gone down to 74.50 per cent. The fatality rate stands at 1.445 percent.
