Itanagar, Feb 23: Relentless efforts put in by security forces to convince the cadres of underground organizations to come overground and join the mainstream has paid dividends as an active cadre of a Naga militant group surrendered before the Longding Police in Arunachal Pradesh.

"Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles in conjunction with Police induced surrender of an active cadre of ENNG at Longding town, Longding District, Arunachal Pradesh on February 21, 2022," police sources said today.

The cadre Wangchung Wangsa (19), a resident of Pongchau village in Longding district, who was holding the rank of SS (Self-Styled) Pvt in the Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG), surrendered before the Longding district Superintendent of Police on Monday.

"The cadre revealed that he led a difficult life while being underground and made an appeal to his comrades to shun violence," the police said.

"The surrender of the cadre will further motivate other cadres active in the region to join the mainstream. Inducing surrender of the active cadre epitomises the humane face of the Assam Rifles, while working to maintain peace in the region," a press note from the Longding District Information and Public Relations Officer said.
