AIZAWL, April 23 (PTI) - The North-east should have a separate time zone as it is losing out in following Indian Standard Time (IST), Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla said today.
"The north-eastern States are the losers in using the IST and it is a high time that we reschedule our time," Lal Thanhawla said at a seminar 'Separate Time Zone for the North East India' organised by the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP).
Lal Thanhawla said that he had made suggestions to the Centre that the North-east should be in a separate time zone and had recently raised the issue at an AICC meeting in New Delhi.
The Chief Minister said that the lawmakers in the region should also take an interest in the issue and go for a consensus in the region.
