North Bank trains suspended indefinitely

By OUR BUREAU

DIBRUGARH, Dec 19 The NF Railway authorities have decided to indefinitely suspend passenger train services on the Brahmaputra north bank on the Rangapara- Murkong Selek section. This follows an act of sabotage on a passenger train near Gohpur on Friday, where several people were hurt and Railway property worth crores damaged.

Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 to each of the seriously injured passengers, while also sympathising with the affected families in relation to the mishap of yesterday's 761 Up Passenger train. Earlier, the NF Railway authorities suspended train movement in the north bank in the same section from November 9 to December 10 this year, following threats of sabotage by Bodo militants. The NF Railways security perception of the situation in the State is also shared by the Union Railway Minister, who feels that train movement in a large part of Assam is prone to sabotage by sundry terrorist groups.
