SHILLONG, June 1 After 17 days of hunger strike, former Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief, Adelbert Nongrum broke his fast together with some of his colleagues here today.

He temporarily broke his fast after the KHADC passed the Village Administration Bill (VAB) at a special session on Saturday, which he was demanding. We demand that the original VAB is approved by the Government, Nongrum said.

He said that the original Bill was like a semi-Inner Line Permit and was framed to protect the interest and welfare of the indigenous people. Terming the amended Bill as toothless, Nongrum met the Governor and requested him not to give his assent to the Bill.
