Non-Cong, BJP parties to hold joint protest stir

GUWAHATI, March 2 � A meeting of the non-Congress, non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parties of the State held at the Ambari headquarters of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), under the aegis of the regional party here today decided to hold joint protest programmes against the anti-people and anti-Assam policies of both the Congress and the BJP.

As a first phase of these programmes, the parties, which included the AGP, CPI, CPI-M, HSDP, CPI-ML, Samajwadi Party, Ganashakti and the NCP, decided to hold a joint sit-in demonstration from 11 am of March 11 in front of the State Assembly, said a press release.

The meeting decided to prepare a minimum common plan of action to unite the Opposition parties of the State.

The meeting also decided to hold a convention against the anti-people and anti-Assam Budget placed by the Narendra Modi-led Central Government in the Parliament.

It further resolved to constitute a committee to prepare this plan of action with inclusion of one member from each of the above parties. The committee will consult all these parties to prepare the plan of action, added the press release.

At the meeting, the parties alleged that since assuming power at the Centre, the BJP has been continually adopting anti-Assam decisions and deliberately betraying the people of the State.

The BJP-led Government at the Centre has been making an effort to debilitate the economy of the State with its Rail and General Budgets, alleged the parties.
