Non-Bodo groups expect good governance from new BTC chief

By CORRESPONDENT

BONGAIGAON, Dec 15 - Non-Bodo groups have hoped that the new administration of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will usher in good governance in the region to address issues and aspirations of the non-Bodo communities.

All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) has welcomed the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL)-Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) combine administration in the BTC headed by UPPL chief Pramod Boro. The student group will continue its support to the new administration if it helps solving the Scheduled Tribe status issue of Koch Rajbongshi community from its end, AKRSU adviser Pradip Ray said.

Providing jobs to each member of the families and protection of land rights of the non-tribal communities were some of the promises mentioned in the manifesto of UPPL. Our Gorkha community is hopeful that new BTC chief Pramod Boro will fulfil these promises soon after the formation of his administration in the council. Otherwise the Gorkha people will be forced to launch an agitation for their demands, said Assam Gorkha Sammelans State unit secretary Nandalal Mogar said.

We want little amendment in the new Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Accord so as to protect the land rights of our Adivasi-Santhal people. We also expect hearty cooperation on our demand for Scheduled Tribe status from the new BTC administration, All Adivasi Student Association of Assams (AASAAs) central committee leader Bimal Murmu said.

Leaders of some Bengali and minority groups want to see only good governance and equality in the council by the new BTC administration.
