By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Oct 21 The Oboro Suraksa Samiti on Saturday held a meeting with the local residents at Simlaguri in Chirang district seeking their support in the legal battle as well as the movement for excluding 864 villages, including Simlaguri, from the BTAD.

The Bongaigaon Kendriya Oboro Suraksa Samiti, the local public forum of Simlaguri, had filed a suit in Gauhati High Court seeking exclusion of the village from the BTAD. The village has 3,052 non-Bodo population and 399 ST populations as per the 2011 census. The court gave verdict on May 21 in 2013 which had directed the petitioners to approach the Governor of Assam.

Accordingly, the petitioners of Simlaguri went to meet the Governor on September 7 in 2013 with a memorandum and relevant documents of the village. Since the Governor was out of station, his personal assistant had received the memorandum and documents, and assured positive outcome. But still the village has been under the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts.

Meanwhile, the Oboro Suraksa Samiti had already filed a suit in Supreme court in the third week of September seeking exclusion of 864 non-Bodo dominated villages (including Simlaguri) from the BTAD, its secretary general Dilwar Hussain said.
