Nominations invited for free education

GUWAHATI, June 26 - The Down Town Charity Trust has invited nominations for free education in different courses from eligible students from poor economic and social backgrounds.

According to a press release, the students only need to pay a nominal amount in the form of security deposit, fees for uniform, registration, etc.

Although the trust has set aside about 100 seats every year to be allocated with a 100 per cent course fee waiver since 2010 for meritorious students from socially or economically backward families of the NE region, this year, on account of the current economic crisis due to COVID-19, the trust has decided to fund 250 seats free of cost. Total scholarships offered now will be to the tune of almost Rs 6.5 crore.

The Down Town Charity Trust was set up by the Down Town Hospital Group in 1997 mainly to improve the overall healthcare facilities in the region and make affordable healthcare reach every section of society, and to improve the infrastructure for human resource development in the region.
