NOC scam unearthed in Dhubri, 2 arrested

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Sept 3 - At a time when the BJP-led Government is trying to minimise corruption levels by introducing online system in the Government offices, fake No Objection Certificates (NOCs) have been issued by the Sub Registrar Office, Dhubri. In this connection, police arrested two clerks namely Kholilur Rahman and Mozzafor Hussain of the office and seized fake documents and seals of an ACS officer from their possession.

The scam came to light when the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner (DC) suddenly checked a bunch of NOCs of the said office for verification. After verification, it was found that of the 422 NOCs issued by the office, 265 were found to be fake which did not match the official records.

The DC also lodged an FIR with the Dhubri Police station where it clearly mentioned that fake certificates were used for land sale and land gift.

When contacted, DC Dhiraj Chaudhary said that most of the fake certificates were issued during the month of April this year. According to my assessment, these fake NOCs were provided during the introduction of online system. During that time the duo manipulated the genuine certificates, he claimed. He further added that police have been asked to investigate the matter so that not a single person is spared involved in the scam. I think a gang has been associated for collecting huge funds, he said.

Meanwhile, a senior police official informed that a group of people has been apprehended for further interrogation. We are also examining various aspects and we are confident that we will be able to arrest more persons soon, the police official said. He, however, refused to divulge more in this regard.
