No trace of abducted Talap trader

DOOMDOOMA, March 4 � Kailash Verma (52), a businessman of Talap under Doomdooma police station was kidnapped by a group of 4/5 unidentified gunmen from his home at around 7.20 pm yesterday.

Though the police has launched a massive search operation to locate the abducted businessman, no trace has been found yet Police is yet to ascertain who is behind this abduction as the family of Kailash Verma denied receiving any demand note from any outfit. Moreover, Verma is not a financially sound businessman. He only runs a small grocery shop and the canteen of Talap T.E. and a small tea garden.

Yesterday, when Verma was in his shop-cum-residence with two of his employees, a group of 4/5 gunmen came to his shop in motor bikes and forcefully took him along with them. The abductors also opened fire to threaten the people. Later, police recovered a few blank and a few live cartidges of AK-47 rifle from his shop. Tinsukia SP Prithviapal Singh visited his house last night to take stock of the situation.

This is the third case of abduction of businessmen in Tinsukia district during the last few months. This incident has created a tension in the entire Doomdooma area, specially among the business community.

The people of Talap observed a bandh today in protest against the abduction of Kailash Verma.
