By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Dec 17 India has no proposal to construct a rail link with China, while its proposed rail connectivity with neighbouring Myanmar has run into trouble over land acquisition problems.

There is no proposal to set up rail link with China, said Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha in a Lok Sabha reply. As for rail links with Myanmar, the Minister said that no response has been received from Myanmar Government over Tamu-Kalay rail link for land acquisition, he added.

A feasibility study was done in 2005 by India through Rail India and Economic Services Limited (RITES) for a link from Jiribam to Mandalay in Myanmar. This includes the missing link of approximately 360 km from Jiribam to Kalay in Myanmar via Moreh and Tamu.

The Jiribam-Imphal section (125 km) is a sanctioned work and taken up for construction. The portion from Imphal to Moreh (111 km) and from Tamu to Kalay 128 km) in Myanmar have not been sanctioned, the Minister informed.
