By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Feb 24 The Committee of Ministers set up by Assam Government to examine all issues involving implementation of Clause Six of the Assam Accord in 2006, is yet to submit its report, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs M Ramachandran said in a Rajya Sabha reply.

Clause Six provides for Constitutional legislative and administrative safeguards to preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of Assamese people.

In a separate reply, the Minister denied that the Supreme Court has issued directions to the Union Government to issue national cards to citizens to check illegal immigrations.

The Government of India is aware of illegal immigration from Bangladesh to India. As this activity takes place clandestinely, no specific details are available about the magnitude of this illegal infiltration into India, the Minister said in a written reply to a question by Biren Baishya.
