No new case in Mizoram

AIZAWL, March 28 - All persons who were in close contact with the first COVID-19 patient of Mizoram have tested negative. After the patient�s family members tested negative, two girls from Arunachal Pradesh who sat next to him on the flight from Delhi to Guwahati on March 16 tested negative too.

The 50-year-old pastor, who recently returned from Amsterdam, is the second COVID-19 patient in the North East.

According to his colleague, he took every possible precaution on his way back as the Netherlands was affected by COVID-19 when he had been there. The pastor�s wife and his two children were discharged from hospital today.

Meanwhile, one person from Khatla locality here who has foreign travel history, was admitted to hospital. Till date, 135 people have been quarantined in seven facilities in Aizawl, Lengpui and Sesawng and 12 new samples were sent to Silchar for test today.

The Mizoram Government has converted the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) here as the treatment and isolation centre for novel coronavirus patients. Health officials said that as per Central Government guidelines, it has become necessary to acquire hospitals and nursing homes for isolation and treatment of COVID-19 patients.

According to the officials, all OPDs of the ZMC have been shut down, the seven-bed ICU vacated and the patients admitted there were being shifted to the Aizawl Civil Hospital and private nursing homes. ZMC Medical Superintendent Dr HC Laldina said that the COVID-19 patient is undergoing treatment in this hospital and his condition is stable.
