SILCHAR, Sept 4 - In an interesting twist to the rising speculations over his joining the BJP, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, former minister and flamboyant Congress leader Gautam Roy has firmly denied the claims saying I am still a Congressman.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Roy said, I dont know why the people and more so the media is stirring talks about my leaving the Congress and joining a party like the BJP. I am still a Congressman. I attended the government function of the immersion of the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the invitation from DC Hailakandi and I feel there is nothing much to talk on this.

It may be mentioned that Roys presence in such events had caused a lot of buzz recently in the political circuits of Barak Valley with people commenting on his move to join the BJP.

However, Roy said that he has always stood by people in their distress and he would continue to do so irrespective of his political jersey. People have voted for who I am and not for which political jersey I wore. If there is a scope to work for the people, I shall never leave the opportunity, he maintained.
