No frills: Sonowal convoy hits city roads

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 25 - The city today witnessed the interesting spectacle of the Chief Ministers convoy moving through the streets without blaring of sirens and following traffic rules.

This came about following the first meeting of the Council of Ministers of the new State Government held this morning chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The meeting of Council of Ministers decided to reduce the number of vehicles of the Chief Ministers convoy to the bare minimum and also to do away with certain restrictions put in place during the movement of Chief Ministers cavalcade so that its movement does not cause any traffic snarl.

The issue of Chief Ministers convoy causing inconvenience to traffic movement has turned out to be a controversial issue in Assam during recent years.

Today Sonowals convoy consisted of far fewer cars as compared to the convoys used by Tarun Gogoi till yesterday.

Sonowals convoy also followed the traffic rules and stopped at the red signal while on way to Shilpgram and the general traffic on the GS Road was not stopped for passage of the CMs convoy.
