No development in northern belt alleged

By Correspondent

TEZPUR, June 5 - The State governments much-hyped developmental schemes are yet to reach the people of various areas under Dhekiajuli LAC in Sonitpur district.

Even though there are a number of developmental projects under the State governments different departments, deplorable road conditions, absence of potable water, medical facilities and proper education facilities have been perennial issues for the people living in the remote rural areas of the northern part of Dhekiajuli town. With the advent of the summer season, every year these people have to face severe communication problems due to the absence of a bridge on the Hugrajuli-Khawla connecting road.

It is pertinent to mention here that the mentioned Hugrajuli-Khawla road is the major road that helps the denizens of over 70 villages to communicate with the other parts of the world. However, people of this belt have been suffering as for the last many years the bridges at many places are in a most deplorable condition that compounds the peoples woes during the summer seasons. During a recent visit to the area by this correspondent, the people troubled with a number problems informed that they have been deprived of all sorts of government facilities. We have forgotten every promise heard during the Congress regimes, but the BJP governments commitment of developmental activities with the motto Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas has also not materialised in our areas, they rued.

They added that the northern part of the Dhekiajuli township under 71 Dhekiajuli LAC in Sonitpur district from Panchnoi river to Missamari area does not find the required necessary facilities. The woes of the residents of this belt have often fallen on deaf ears of the authorities. Most of the roads connecting the above-mentioned villages with other parts of the world have been in dilapidated condition for a couple of decades. The panchayats under the Dhekiajuli development block which are solely responsible for the developmental works of the rural areas have also failed to deal with the problems of the people of this greater area. The residents of the area alleged and mentioned that as the authority concerned has failed to do the needful for solving their communication problems they have made a bamboo makeshift bridge so that the locals can at least get respite from problem during the summer season.

Expressing their total annoyance over the governments indifferent attitude towards addressing their grievances, residents of the area said that on many occasions, they have appealed to the department concerned to construct a bridge over Belsiri river, but there was no response from the department concerned. There is also simply a bamboo bridge is the only means of connecting the people with other parts in the greater area. More importantly, till date crores of funds have been allotted to the area for the development of the road communication, electrification, drinking water facility etc., but due to the misappropriation of allotted funds nothing has been materialised properly in the area. The people of the area urged the local MLA to deal with their long-pending problems that have plagued their life.
