GUWAHATI, June 21 Police is yet to trace the whereabouts of Pranab Kumar Mahanta, who is believed to have killed his wife and two daughters with a hammer at their Banphool Path residence in the Hatigaon area of the city in the wee hours on Saturday.

Mahantas car was found near the Saraighat Bridge a few hours after the bodies were spotted, but it is still not clear whether he had actually committed suicide, police said.

We are not ruling out anything at this moment. Having said that, it is true that the accuseds behaviour had been very inconsistent in the past. Earlier, too, he had threatened his family members of such consequences, police sources told this reporter.

Investigators today collected detailed medical history of Mahanta and found that he was a psychiatric patient and was undergoing regular medical treatment for quite some time.

On Nayanjyoti Bhattacharya, police informed that he will soon be questioned in this regard and that a notice has been sent to him.

Bhattacharya was a close friend of Mahanta and they had some financial issues. There are a few points which are still not clear, sources said.
