GUWAHATI, Sept 16 - Four days after a trader was shot dead by unknown assailants in Kumarpara area, city police have failed to make any breakthrough, adding to the list of unsolved cases that has exposed the inefficiency of the men in khaki.
In connection with the Kumarpara incident, police today announced Rs 25,000 cash award for information on each of the five members of the gang who reportedly shot Shyam Sundar Ratwa on September 12 evening inside a shop.
The police also released photographs of two members of the gang. But even after four days, the city police still remain clueless about the current location of the culprits.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Khanindra Kr Choudhury said that they have been examining all possible aspects of the incident and trying their best to nab the culprits at the earliest. Police have so far questioned more than 30 people hailing from different parts of the city, but are yet to get any leads into the incident.
The murder took place in a very busy area and after killing the trader, the gang easily fled from the crowded spot where for a normal driver even reversing his vehicle is not an easy task.
In the last six months there have been several cases of crime which the police have failed to solve.
The police continue to remain clueless about the miscreants who had beheaded a woman on Nilachal Hill near the Kamakhya Temple, just a few days before the Ambubachi Mela.
Senior police officials admitted that they have not found any clue about the identity of the killers, as also of the victim. Recently a person from Kolkata approached Guwahati City Police and claimed that the woman was his mother. To authenticate his claim, the police have sent his blood sample to match it with the woman�s DNA, but the report is yet to come.
In another case, three persons wearing helmets looted a jewellery shop at Fatasil Ambari in July. Fatasil Ambari police detained five persons in connection with the case but failed to establish their link with the crime. All the persons are now in judicial custody.
Dilip Bharali, officer-in-charge of Fatasil Ambari Police Station said that as the miscreants were wearing helmets while looting the shop, it has become literally impossible to trace them.
In the last part of 2018, the theft that took place at the Ugratara Temple here also raised a question mark on the efficiency of the City Police. In this case, even though City Police had initially claimed to have picked up a gang of suspects, that case was eventually cracked by Golaghat police who nabbed the culprits in Nalbari district and recovered the stolen idol.
