GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - Even after 48 hours have passed since Junu Sarma, the service manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) Dadara Branch was shot dead by unidentified assailants, no breakthrough has been made by the investigators.
Meanwhile, Pranab Kalita, the driver of Sarma�s personal vehicle, was set free after preliminary questioning. Kalita was driving the car when two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead Sarma after intercepting her vehicle at Agiathori when she was returning home from office on Tuesday evening.
�The call details of a number of suspects are being examined and various aspects are being probed,� police said.
Police also stated that a team of investigators is on the job and it is hopeful of a breakthrough very soon.
Police, meanwhile, has ruled out the �mistaken identity� theory as has been suspected by certain sections, but said that the circumstantial evidences indicate it to be a pre-planned murder.
Eyewitness had stated that the assailants after intercepting the vehicle, broke the window panes and shot her from a close range.
Sarma was a resident of Guwahati�s Chandmari area.
Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia told The Assam Tribune on Wednesday that the way things seem to have unfolded certainly makes it a case of a pre-planned murder.
�We are however probing all possible angles that have emerged so far, especially the one related to bank-related operation. We would get to the root of the case very soon,� Saikia said.
He said that the statements of all the eye-witnesses have been recorded and the investigators are on the job. �The culprits would be brought to book soon,� he said.
