No breakthrough in Pathak murder case

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, May 27 The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), probing the Gadapani Pathak murder case, has failed to make any headway even after almost 12 days have passed since it took up the case.

The investigators have neither been able to locate the whereabouts of Faizur Islam, executive engineer, who was abducted along with Gadapani Pathak, nor have they been able to ascertain the intent behind the abduction and subsequent killing of superintending engineer of Agriculture department Gadapani Pathak.

Although the CID had earlier claimed to have stumbled upon leads during the investigation, it has apparently failed to transpire them into results. The team had even visited West Bengal during the course of investigation but failed to effect any breakthrough.

Meanwhile, wife of the slain superintending engineer, talking to this reporter, said that they are not aware of any development as far as the investigation is concerned.

Further, although there are media reports doing the rounds about the possibility of the missing executive engineer Faizur Islam been kept along the Indo-Bangla border, CID sources have refrained from giving any official confirmation.

We want the culprits to be punished and in ensuring that any higher agency needs to be entrusted with the investigation, there is no harm in doing that, a close associate of Gadapani Pathak said.

Meanwhile, CID sources informed that they have intensified operation to trace out the missing executive engineer and we are hopeful of solving the jigsaw soon.

Faizur Islam is the missing link and once his whereabouts are known, things will take little time to unfold, sources added, although they maintained that the investigation was going in the right direction.
