By R Dutta Choudhury

GUWAHATI, Dec 17 - The officers and employees of the Central government offices in Assam will not get Bohag Bihu holiday in 2021 and will have to apply for restricted holiday during the Assamese New Year festival.

As per the list of holidays for the Central government offices in Assam, Bohag Bihu, which was a holiday till this year, has been removed from the list of holidays for the year 2021.

However, this year, the officers and employees of the Central government offices located in Assam did not get Magh Bihu holiday. They will get a holiday on January 14 next year on the occasion of Magh Bihu. This proves that there was a toss-up between Magh Bihu and Bohag Bihu while finalising the list of holidays.

The Central government offices in the State will be closed for two days during Durga Puja next year on Mahanavami and Vijaya Dasami.

Official sources said the Central government holidays differ from State to State, depending on local festivals. The Central government allots 17 days of holidays and the days vary from State to State.

The holidays in a particular State are decided by a State-level Central Government Employees Coordination Committee comprising officers from different Central government offices located in that State.
