No black money abroad, BJP MPs to declare Friday

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, Dec 8 (IANS): The main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday said its MPs will give a declaration on the occasion of world anti-corruption day Friday that they don't have any black money or wrongly acquired assets abroad.

Rajya Sabha member and senior party leader S.S. Ahluwalia told reporters that the declaration has already been submitted to the two leaders of opposition in parliament, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.

"Our MPs have given their declarations to the respective leader of opposition of their house. Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley will submit these declarations to the presiding officers of their respective houses tomorrow which is also world anti-corruption day," Ahluwalia told reporters.

The announcement for this declaration was made by veteran party leader L.K. Advani in his Nov 21 rally marking the end of his nationwide Jan Chetna Yatra.

The declaration, Advani had said, would read like this: "I solemnly declare that I don't have directly or indirectly any bank account or asset illegally held outside India."

The announcement came in the wake of reports that three MPs figure in the list of 700 Indians who have allegedly stashed funds in Swiss bank accounts.

The Opposition party has also sought a discussion on black-money, which was accepted by the government but could not take place due to repeated adjournments of parliament. The discussion is now slated for Dec 12.
