NLFT ultra surrenders in Tripura

AGARTALA, Feb 22 � An insurgent of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) has surrendered to Assam Rifles personnel at Kalibari in Takarjala Police station of West Tripura district, the police said today.

The police said Bongsida Reang deposited live cartridges of AK-47 and tax collection receipts during his surrender yesterday.

According to the preliminary interrogation, the police said Reang told that he had deserted the base camp in Bangladesh. � PTI

Jawan injured in gunfight

AGARTALA, Feb 22 � A jawan of paramilitary Tripura State Rifles (TSR) was today injured in a gunfight with suspected insurgents of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) at Kakuiroajapara, a remote tribal hamlet in Dhalai district.

Ashutosh Ghosh was injured when a contingent of TSR jawans during a search operation today was fired upon by the ultras prompting the forces to retaliate, DIG Nepal Das said.

An encounter ensued and lasted for about 15 minutes, Das said, adding that the ultras managed to flee into thick forests.

He said Ghosh was lifted by a helicopter and admitted to Agartala Medical College where his condition was stated to be serious. � PTI
