Nitish Kumar elected head of JD-U legislature party

PATNA, Nov 25 (IANS) - Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was Thursday unanimously elected leader of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) legislature party and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi was elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party here.

Nitish Kumar was elected at a meeting of the newly elected party legislators while Modi was elected by his party's newly elected legislators in the presence of senior party leader Arun Jaitley.

JD-U leaders said Nitish Kumar is likely to be elected leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) legislature party by Thursday night in the 15th Bihar Assembly.

Later, the NDA leaders would hand over letters of support of the legislators of two parties to the governor and stake claim to form the government in the state.

Nitish Kumar will take oath as chief minister of Bihar for the second time Friday.

Sources close to him said that a ministry of 35 members with 20 from JD-U quota and 15 from BJP quota would also be sworn in Friday.

The NDA combine swept the Bihar assembly polls with JD-U winning 115 seats and the BJP winning 91 seats in 243-member House.
