By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 14 - A NITI Aayog team led by its CEO Amitabh Kant will on Wednesday sit across the table with industry bodies, representatives from governments of NE states and other stakeholders and hold consultations for framing a new industrial and investment promotion policy for the region.

The NITI Aayog team will meet the industry bodies separately.

The Central Government had formed a committee headed by the NITI Aayog CEO to examine and suggest a roadmap for a new industrial policy for the NE region and Himalayan states. The committee also comprises of secretaries of eleven other Central Ministries.

The ongoing North Eastern Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) expires this month. Registration under the schemes of NEIIPP had been stopped since December 1, 2014.

Official sources said the new policy is likely to give more thrust on the Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSME) sector and small industries.

Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) president Pabitra Buragohain said the industry here hopes that the new policy will help the region to grow.

There has been a negative impression at the Centre that what we need is only subsidies. This time we are going to suggest that the subsidies should be given only to those who require it. We feel 30 per cent Central Capital Investment Subsidy with a cap of Rs 50 crore for manufacturing sector (thrust areas) and Rs 30 crore for service sector may be applied so that investors are attracted to the region, Buragohain, who will lead a team from FINER at tomorrows crucial meeting and submit a wishlist, said.
