NIT convocation today

SILCHAR, May 15 � The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, will host its 13th convocation tomorrow. As many as 730 students, who have successfully completed their studies in BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA and doctoral programmes, will be conferred degrees. Gold and silver medals will also be bestowed on the rank holders.

Vishram Ramchandra Jamdar, chairman, BOG, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Nagpur, will deliver the convocation address as the chief guest and Padma Bhushan awardee Prof Asis Datta, distinguished emeritus scientist at the National Institute of Plant Genome Research, New Delhi, will be the guest of honor for this year�s convocation.

The entire convocation programme will be webcast live for Internet viewers.

Led by its Director, Prof NV Deshpande, the NIT, Silchar, was adjudged the best engineering college in eastern India by leading industry body ASSOCHAM at the ASSOCHAM National Education Excellence Awards, 2015. It has also achieved NBA accreditation under Tier-1 as per the Washington Accord for four engineering departments.

The NIT, Silchar, has already bagged 81.61 per cent placement for its engineering students and another 99 per cent placement for the second batch of MBA students for the ongoing academic session of 2014-15.
