JORHAT, Feb 9 - The Jorhat district administration under Section 144 of the CrPC, has clamped night curfew within the radius of five km along the Assam-Nagaland border in the district.
The curfew will be in force from 8 pm to 5 am, the order issued by the Jorhat District Magistrate stated, said a press note issued by the district administration on Thursday.
The order mentioned that the measure has been taken in view of apprehension of militants trying to sneak into the district to carry out subversive activities, the note said, quoting the order.
Security force personnel, magistrates and employees of the Forest Department deployed in the border areas have been exempted from the night curfew, the order mentioned.
The note that the night curfew will be in force until further order by the district magistrate in this regard. Anyone found violating the order will be dealt with action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, the order mentioned, the note stated.
It may be mentioned here that earlier this year, the district administration had declared night curfew several times along the Assam-Nagaland border in the district with the last such order passed on December 7, 2019.
Jorhat district shares over 100 km boundary with Nagaland which has a rough terrain and dense forests.
