NIELT, NIT Silchar sign MoU

GUWAHATI, March 25 - The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) and NIT Silchar took a step forward for promoting skill upgradation and creating employability avenues in the North-east by signing an MoU on March 21.

The MoU was signed by K Baruah, Director, NIELIT Guwahati and AK Barbhuiyan, Registrar, NIT Silchar.

As part of this MoU, the NIELIT will provide training in skill development in niche areas to youth of the country in the non-formal sector. They will be conducting courses in the field of Electronics Sector Design Manufacturing (ESDM). NIT Silchar will be providing the basic facilities to NIELIT in order to fulfil the objective.

On the occasion, Director General, NIELIT, Dr Ashwini Kumar Sharma said that in the recent past, the Government of India, Department of Electronics & Information Technology had given capacity building projects in information technology for government employees of the North-east. He added that NIELIT would be setting up medical electronics repair labs duly funded by DeitY (Department of Electronics and Information Technology), Government of India.

�This will provide opportunities to local hospitals and medical colleges in the nearby areas to get their medical equipment maintained/repaired on a very economical price in a time-bound manner. Moreover, this will also provide capacity building of the youth in the medical electronics repair which has got ample job opportunities,� he said.

K Baruah, Director, NIELIT Guwahati, said that NIELIT had 18 centres in the NE out, of which six were in Assam. �The NIELIT is running various courses in the field of IECT from digital literacy to the high-end ones. The support of State Government is appreciable and it has given free land at all the locations to set up permanent campuses of NIELIT,� he said.

Dr NV Deshpande, Director, NIT Silchar, said that the MoU would put the infrastructure of the institute to its adequate usage.
