JORHAT, Aug 21 � The Secretary in the Central Government�s Department of Electronics and Information Technology, J Satyanarayana inaugurated an extension centre of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIEIT) at the campus of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) here on Monday.
Two other NIEIT centres at Silchar and Churachandpur (Manipur) were inaugurated by him through video-conferencing from the Deputy Commissioner�s office here.
Addressing the students, teachers and other dignitaries, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of Information Technology, Government of Assam, Anurag Goel said the new extension centre would provide professional IT education as per the requirements of the industries. The institute will offer IT courses from the basic level to the higher level equivalent to MTech. Course materials have been designed to fulfil the needs of quality manpower in IT and other sectors.
Speaking about the State Government�s contribution to the central institute, Goel said that the district administration would provide land near the Jorhat Central Jail for a permanent campus of the institute. He said the institute would reserve certain seats for students from the rural background in Jorhat and its neighbouring areas.
NIELT managing director Dr Ashwini Kumar Sharma said that the institute would help aspiring students in Jorhat and its adjoining districts to choose careers in the IT profession.
