NIA summons Zeliang in �extortion� probe case

DIMAPUR, March 12 - Three days after the new government took over reins in Nagaland, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday summoned former Chief Minister TR Zeliang to appear before NIA Deputy SP Sh Jasveer Singh at NIA HO, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi at 10 am on Tuesday.

The NIA has issued the summon to the former Chief Minister under Section 160 CrPC in connection with a NIA Case relating to alleged �tax collection� and �extortion� from State Government departments by Naga underground groups.

The summon notice issued by DSP, NIA, Yogesh Rathore said it appears Zeliang is acquainted with the circumstances of the case which is being investigated by Sh Jasveer Singh, Dy SP, NIA under Chapter XIV of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

He has been asked to appear along with documents relevant to the payments received from the government departments for the purpose of answering certain questions relating to investigation of the �instant case�.

The NIA had also summoned three senior officials of Zeiang�s CMO, including his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) and two public relation officers, for questioning just before the Assembly elections in the State.

Last year, the agency also arrested four Nagaland Government officials for alleged transfer of funds from State Government departments to a Naga underground group.
