GUWAHATI, April 3 - The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed its supplementary charge-sheet against two JMB operatives.
The accused � Hafizur Rahman and Azaharuddin Ahmed � were booked under Section 18, 18B, 23 and 38 of the UA(P) Act. The case was re-registered by NIA on December 21 last year, which had arisen out of an FIR registered with the Barpeta Police.
On July 29 last year, acting on input about presence of a trained JMB suspect, Barpeta Police conducted a search in the house of Hafizur Rahman.
During the search, a country-made revolver, four rounds of live ammunition and incriminating documents were recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a case was registered at Barpeta Police Station against Hafizur Rahman and subsequently other trained cadres of JMB, namely Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Md Hafiz Safikul Islam and Azaharuddin Ahmed were arrested.
The NIA has claimed that the accused persons are trained members of JMB, a proscribed terrorist organisation in India and Bangladesh and that the accused persons were recruited by one Sahanur Alom of Barpeta district. Sahanur Alom was earlier arrested by NIA in the Burdwan blast case in 2014 and has already been convicted and sentenced to eight years of imprisonment on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India and recruiting and training members of JMB.
