NHPC to begin works for Dibang project

NEW DELHI, Sept 23 - The NHPC is going ahead with the preliminary works for construction of the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh for an amount of Rs 1,600 crore, the power generation company�s chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Balraj Joshi said.

He was addressing the 43rd annual general meeting (AGM) of the NHPC at Faridabad on Monday. He said the company has received approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for incurring expenditure on pre-investment activities, besides other clearances for the Dibang project.

The CCEA had on July 18, gave the green signal to the hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh approving an amount of Rs 1,600 crore as pre-investment and clearance expenditure for the Rs 28,080 crore strategic venture.

Further, referring to the controversial 2,000 MW Subansiri (Lower) Hydroelectric Project, Joshi said the principal bench of National Green Tribunal has upheld the constitution of the expert committee by the Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change for the project.

Highlighting achievements of the NHPC, Joshi said the company had earned a total revenue of Rs 9,086 crore and a revenue from operations (net) of Rs 8,161 crore during the financial year 2018-19. He said the National Company Law Tribunal has also accepted the resolution plan submitted for the Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Limited (LTHPL), the developer of the 500 MW Teesta-VI hydroelectric Project in Sikkim.
