By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, April 29 - The Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Department has said that the National Health Mission (NHM) would be responsible for effective delivery of essential health services and mitigating the health risks posed to the general population while continuing to focus on COVID-19 management.

An official release said the COVID-19 pandemic has put tremendous strain on the healthcare system and currently, the entire focus of the health system is dedicated to COVID-19 preparedness, responsiveness and mitigation activities. It added that delivery of essential services should continue simultaneously.

The release said the NHM Managing Director would submit a daily report on all key performance indicators, and designate officials as district in-charges to provide all necessary information. He will oversee that on no account, delivery of essential healthcare services to the general population is compromised.

In another notification, the Health and Family Welfare Department asked all the district hospitals to continue delivery of selected services like OPD and other daycare services till such time as COVID-19 patients are admitted.

It said the hospital authority would ensure adequate measures for social distancing and triaging, including barriers, to prevent intermingling of patients and avoid crowding in conformity with the standard operating procedure (SOP) issued from time to time.

The notification also said all patients and attendants must wear face masks at all times, while Health personnel concerned will wear appropriate PPE suits as per existing SOPs.

On the Nagaland Medical Council partnering with the State Health and Family Welfare Department for providing OPD service in the districts, Principal Secretary (Home) Abhijit Sinha said healthcare services have already started at the Town Sub Centre in Wokha district and at Kumlong Sub Centre in Mokokchung, Impur Clinic and Impur Christian Hospital, besides Kohima and Dimapur.

He said the OPD service would be available from 9 am to 1 pm from Monday till Friday. Depending on the availability of volunteers, similar facilities will be extended to other locations and districts, Sinha said.

He requested the healthcare professionals who wish to volunteer for the initiative to WhatsApp their details to 9402245812.
