NH blockade against BSF atrocities

By Correspondent

RANGIYA, April 12 Hundreds of people here this morning blockade the NH 31 at Udiana for nearly an hour in protest against yesterdays incident of sudden assult on voters at a polling booth here by BSF men injuring many civilians, and calling for immediate suspension of the guilty security personnel in this regard.

The protesters also demanded repair of the polling booth-an LP School-which was damaged in the incident, besides proper medical aid to those injured and transfer of Rangiya SDPO for failing in his duty.

SDO (Civil) CD Singha assured the protesters that he would take up the issues with his higher authorities, and appealed to the people to maintain harmony.

Repolling has been ordered at polling centres at 53,54,55 and 56 of the 77 Balak Vidyalaya here following the incident.

AGP protest at Bongaigaon: AGP workers and supporters today took out a protest rally against BPF at Bongaigaon and submitted a memorandum to DC demanding arrest of the BPF workers who had attacked and injured AGP workers at Bhakaribhita yesterday.

AGP working president Phani Bhusan Chaudhury alleged that in his Bongaigaon constituency Congress and BPF workers have been attacking his party workers. He criticised the police for allegedly adopting an anti-AGP stand and favouring the BPF. Because after yesterdays incident police misbehaved with only AGP workers and not the BPF workers, he alleged.

A pressman was also ill-treated by a BPF worker in the poll centre campus yesterday in front of Bongaigaon SP. But SP did not take any action against him. This act has sparked reaction among the local media fraternity. AAPCU, Bongaigaion district, AKRSU, AJYCP and AASU have condemned the incident.
