NH-52 blocked over toll gate

By Staff correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Sept 21 - All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday staged a one-hour road blockade of NH-52 at Bogibeel in protest against setting up of toll gate.

Several hundred youths representing AASU and AJYCP from the districts of Dibrugarh (south) and Dhemaji in the northern banks took part in the protest. Criticising the BJP-led government, the leaders of both the organisations said that tax collection will give rise to increase in the fare of transport vehicles, increase in the price of commodities, cause harassment to students and patients rushing to Dibrugarh from the southern bank for higher studies and medical purpose respectively among others.

Bulbul Dutta, president of All Dibrugarh District Students Union, demanded that the toll gate be withdrawn as people coming to Dibrugarh from across the river, including Arunachal Pradesh, for studies, medical and other purposes will be harassed. He urged upon the BJP-led government to complete the road connectivity and repair all the dilapidated roads instead of collecting tax.
