By Correspondent

JAMUGURIHAT, May 28 Hundreds of irate members of the public blocked the NH 52 at Sootea Centre on Monday erecting barricades and burning tyres demanding the arrest of the culprits who had stabbed to death a popular youth of Ghahigaon, Rubul Ali and critically injured Adil Ali on May 23 evening. It may be mentioned that on the basis of an SMS, a lady Rimjim Borah was taken into custody by the police, but they failed to elicit any substantial information on the murder from her.

The people blocked the NH for more than an hour and lifted the blockade on the assurance of the Additional SP, Tezpur that the culprits will be nabbed very soon.

Meanwhile, AASU activists led by AASU central committee member Duldul Borkotaky, Sonitpur district secretary Abhijit Nath staged a dharna in front of Jamuguri PS and blocked the NH 52 at Jamuguri centre for more than half-an-hour on Monday demanding proper repair of the Panpur-Biswanathghat embankment which was breached in three places last year leading to devastating floods in the entire South Sootea and Jamugurihat area. The AASU alleged that the repairs had been carried out by sand which will not withstand even one heavy shower, not to speak of floods.

The dharna and blockade were withdrawn at the assurance of the Circle Officr, Naduar Revenue Circle. A memorandum was handed over to him to be sent to the Chief Minister.
