NH-31 blockade in Bongaigaon

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Dec 29 A large number of people hailing from 40 different villages under Bongaigaon district blocked the National Highway 31 today around 11 am at Rakhaldubi in protest against alleged move to hand over 23 non-Bodo villages to BTAD by the Cabinet Sub-Committee. Since these villages fall under Bongaigaon district, hence non-Bodo people of the district have opposed this move strongly.

The blockade lasted more than two hours. Police stopped picketers at Chaprakata railway crossing and at Aie river bridge. Many picketers gathered at Rakhaldubi and made the blockade successful. They shouted slogans against Congress-BPF government and showed posters and banners with anti-BTC slogans. No untoward incident took place during the protest demo. The blockade was organised by the Ganatantrik Adhikar Suraksha Mancha, Bongaigaon.

Meanwhile, in order to review the over all security situation in Kokrajhar district, GD Tripathi, Secretary Home, Government of Assam today visited Kokrajhar district headquarter.
