GUWAHATI, Nov 24 - The Kolkata-based Eastern Zone Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), by an interim order, has stopped all construction activities of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Changsari, according to the AIIMS Demand Committee of Raha in a statement here today.
The Committee said the order came in the wake of a petition (original application No.144/2016/EZ) filed by Sarbeswar Boruah and others challenging the official move to set up the AIIMS at Changsari. The petitioners named the Union of India and others as the respondents. The hearing was held yesterday.
The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, Pollution Control Board, Assam, and the Environment and Forest Department appeared before the NGT Bench in connection with the case yesterday. However, the State and the Union Government did not appear before it. The Bench has ordered issuance of notices to both the governments.
