TURA, May 21 - The Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) has written to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, seeking waiver of rent for students, workers and shopkeepers living as tenants in view of the COVID-19 crisis.
The pandemic has brought everything to a halt, affecting students, shopkeepers and small entrepreneurs. Their livelihood has been bit badly and in this financial crisis, it has become tough for them to pay rent to their landlords, said Arjusbel Marak, Social Welfare Secretary of the AYWO.
The NGO requested the Chief Minister to issue a directive to landlords of the State to exempt the affected people from paying rent from March to May or till the lockdown is lifted.
Ambulance demanded: The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Dadenggre unit, has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, seeking an ambulance at the Dadenggre CHC.
The NGO also pointed towards the poor health infrastructure in the area.
The ambulance will cater to the needs of the people and help in better prevention against COVID-19, said Dadenggre FKJGP unit general secretary Augustin Marak.
Marak said that there was only one hospital for the entire subdivision.
