NGO holds exhibition of SHGs at Katahbari

GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - Bethany Social Service Centre, Garchuk, an NGO working for the people living in slum areas through primary education for children, empowering women through SHGs and equipping them with the means to earn more income through relevant IGA/skill training, organised an exhibition and sale of the products of its SHGs at Katahbari market ground on Tuesday.

Twenty-four SHG units participated in the exhibition. Sr Edelburge BS, Assistant Provincial of the North East Province, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Bhupen Thakuria, Councillor, Ward No.7, Joshim Ahmed, Headmaster of Katahbari ME School, Katahbari, and Pronita Boro, Headmistress of Katahbari LP School, were the special invitees to the exhibition.

The products in the exhibition ranged from homemade local delicacies, cakes and pickles, to house decoration items made of local resources like bamboo, meteka (water hyacinth), clay pots, flowers made of different materials in varied colours, beautifully-decorated ornaments, and mekhela chador, gamoocha and arnai. Made by village artisans, those products were exhibited for sale at reasonable prices, drawing positive response from the customers.

The aim of the exhibition was to provide a platform to the SHG members and strengthen their capacities.
