TURA, April 26 - The Anti- Corruption and Human Development Organisation (ACHDO) has demanded immediate resumption of the embankment works on the Rongai river. The NGO pointed to the fact that while one side has been completed, the other side of the river still remains unprotected.
�One side of the river (Chibinang to Pushkunipara) has been done, while on the other side no work has been done. We fail to understand the reason as to why only a single side has been protected,� said NGO president Israhful Hoque.
In 2014, devastating floods claimed human lives as well as heads of cattle, and damaged crops due to lack of flood protection measures.
�If another such flood occurs, we fear the situation could be worse. The flow of water this time will only go towards one side and cause havoc. We demand that flood protection measures should be carried out on both sides,� said Hoque asking the Government not to ignore the current situation.
