NGO calls Garo Hills bandh

By Correspondent

TURA, March 28 The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) has called a 12 hour bandh in Garo Hills region on March 31, after the NGOs office was allegedly vandalised by police late last night. The bandh is in protest against what the NGO alleged was an intention of the police to intimidate them in the wake of protests against the fake encounter in Oragitok.

In a release, the ADE has demanded the police officers responsible for the incident be taken into custody. One member was beaten up and another taken into custody by police without any valid reason, it said.

On March 27, at around 10.30 pm, some police personnel unlawfully entered into the office at Araimile, Tura and vandalised the office. It was only after some NGO leaders approached the police that the arrested member was released around midnight, the release said. The NGO filed a complaint at Tura PS today.
