GUWAHATI, April 24 - Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has increased services of parcel freight trains during the current nationwide lockdown. This parcel train service can be availed by anybody who needs to send consignments to different places by calling a centralised helpline number.

We have so far run 88 trips of parcel special trains carrying materials like milk and milk products, medicines, masks, personal protection equipment (PPE), sanitizers and baby food, among other items. These trains run like normal passenger trains with fixed departure and arrival time and date. Within the north-eastern region a few parcel special trains have also been operated to destinations like Agartala, Dibrugarh and Mendipathar carrying about 500 tonnes of various items and also blood samples so that the landlocked states neighbouring Assam could also reap the benefits, said Subhanan Chanda, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR.

He said that in recent days, e-commerce portals like Amazon and the Central governments India Post have also availed this service to book their consignments from here to Kolkata and New Delhi.
