By Correspondent

HAFLONG, April 19 To take stock of the situation regarding the viability of running trains in newly-converted broad gauge section between Lumding and Silchar, the General Manager, of NF Railway, RS Virdi came on a tour on Friday.

Virdi, accompanied by the Chief Administrative Officer Ajit Pandit, Chief Engineer, RP Jinjar and others in a special train started the inspection on Saturday and reached New Haflong Station at about 11.30 am and after a brief stoppage, proceeded to Silchar via Badarpur junction.

At New Haflong station, Virdi and the accompanying railway officials were welcomed by the members of different tribes of Dima Hasao district.

Interacting with media persons at New Haflong Station, Virdi disclosed that running of passenger train between Lumding and Silchar solely depends on the inspection certificate from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The CRS inspection has been completed from Lumding to New Haflong, but not from New Haflong to Silchar. We have already set out April 22, 23 and 24 for CRS inspection. After the inspection, the CRS may suggest rectifications if anything needs rectification. We are actually waiting for the final certificate from the CRS before running of passengers trains from Lumding to Silchar, he said.
