NFR conducts surprise checks

GUWAHATI, Aug 30 � The Railway authorities detected 469 cases of passengers travelling without tickets or with irregular tickets and realised fares and fines to the tune of over Rs 3.80 lakh on a single day during surprise checks conducted in trains under the Rangia Railway Division.

An NFR official said the checking was conducted on August 28 by Chief Travelling Ticket Inspectors, along with ticket collectors and RPF personnel. A total of 293 ticketless passengers were caught from various local and long-distance trains and fares worth Rs 2,10,515 and penalty of Rs 73,250 were realised from them. Besides, 174 persons travelling with �irregular� tickets were also identified and a total fare of Rs 52,715 and penalty of Rs 43,500 were collected from them.

Two cases of unbooked luggage were noticed during the drives, yielding a penalty of Rs 300. The official said that such surprise checks would continue at the Rangia division.
