NF Rly flayed for ignoring safety of its employees

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, March 22 - At a time when the entire nation is adopting all precautionary measures to contain spread of coronavirus, NF Railways, it seems, has failed to show desirable concern towards its staff despite an appeal from NFR Mazdoor Union (NFRMU), alleged Pulak Gogoi, the central organising secretary of NFRMU.

In a press note, Gogoi who is also the zonal convenor of Tinsukia Railway Division, strongly criticised the NF Railway authorities for their lackadaisical attitude towards 46,500 employees of NFR and their families.

Running staff of NF Railways like TTE and coach attendants are most susceptible to infection from travelling passengers. Since nationwide warning has been sounded following outbreak of Covid-19, still the NF Railway authorities are yet to take any initiative to safeguard its employees, Gogoi alleged.

He also pointed out that the authority has not provided any safety gadgets like mask or hand sanitiser for safety of the employees engaged in the seven divisions viz. Tinsukia (5600), Dibrugarh Workshop (1200), Lumding (10,000), Rangia (6000), Bongaigaon Workshop (2200), Alipurduar (6500) and Katihar (15,000) respectively.

Under the circumstances, NFRMU demanded the NF Railway authority to immediately provide its employees with masks, handgloves, sanitiser etc.
